Total surveillance of the people is what Congress ultimately wants, so it is no surprise that this is apparently a top legislative priority for them — even at a time when 1 out of every 2 recent college graduates face unemployment. Even at a time when our total public debt is above $15 trillion.
How bad is CISPA in its current form? Here’s some analysis from Techdirt: “Up until this afternoon, the final vote on CISPA was supposed to be tomorrow. Then, abruptly, it was moved up today—and the House voted in favor of its passage with a vote of 248-168. But that’s not even the worst part. [...] Previously, CISPA allowed the government to use information for ‘cybersecurity’ or ‘national security’ purposes. Those purposes have not been limited or removed. Instead, three more valid uses have been added: investigation and prosecution of cybersecurity crime, protection of individuals, and protection of children. Cybersecurity crime is defined as any crime involving network disruption or hacking, plus any violation of the CFAA.”
Let me put this into perspective for you:
- If the government suspects you are a genuine “bad guy,” like a cyberterrorist, human trafficker, drug kingpin, etc… they can already seize all of this online activity information about you. It’s called obtaining a warrant. CISPA does away with that. It supercedes ALL existing federal privacy laws. As Techdirt’s Leigh Beadon put it, “Basically it says the 4th Amendment does not apply online, at all. Moreover, the government could do whatever it wants with the data as long as it can claim that someone was in danger of bodily harm, or that children were somehow threatened—again, notwithstanding absolutely any other law that would normally limit the government’s power.”
Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) appeared on Voice of Christian Youth America’s radio program Crosstalk with Vic Eliason yesterday to promote his new book The Greatest Hoax: How the Global Warming Conspiracy Threatens Your Future, where he repeated his frequent claim that human influenced climate change is impossible because “God’s still up there.” Inhofe cited Genesis 8:22 to claim that it is “outrageous” and arrogant for people to believe human beings are “able to change what He is doing in the climate.”
Occupy Wall Street approves of just how epic a movie like this would be! F*ck ‘The Dictator‘ movie that Sacha Baron Cohen is coming out with. Everyone knows dictators are bad. That’s like these ‘new Facebook activists’ promoting the Kony 2012 video. Create a character like Rick Santorum. Make him extreme right wing old testament Christian. Make sure the character running for President would kill gay people if he could get away with it or if he could just get elected and put it into law.
You also have so much material with a spoof character on a backwards ‘right wing everything’ running for Presient. Like how woman shouldn’t get jobs and how it’s a great idea to invade every country in the world. Also make blow jobs illegal and no birth control for anyone…. then show Snooki having more kids.
Ooh, that would be such a fun movie. It would also educate people (like the lame state of Kansas) into wising up about voting for backwards candidates like this. If Rick Santorum gets elected President he would set us back to the dark ages.
It begins. Anonymous considered terrorists now and laws pertaining to actual terrorists can now be applied to them. Occupy Wall Street cannot stress how bad this is. This is the beginning of the end to our “free” country as we know it.
Joe Rogan speaking out about Obama signing the NDAA into law
Obama signed this into law. Obama specifically requested that NDAA include US Citizens. This has not gotten enough attention.
Our President blames the Senate for tagging NDAA in with the military appropriations bill, when it was his office that requested the provision! What a bunch of baloney. In the Republic Plato warns that Democracy can devolve into a tyranny, and it seems to me that Obama is nothing more than a mouthpiece for the nefarious forces within our Govt.
Whoever votes for Obama in the upcoming elections hates America.
Please Sign The Petition To Have The President Veto The National Defense Authorization Act
The National Defense Authorization Act, which Occupy Wall Street is strongly against, allows American Citizens to be detained & held by the US Government/Military indefinitely, without judge, jury, or trial. It also allocates an additional $650 billion in defense spending, that we don’t need to be spending or have in the first place.
This act has been passed by Congress and will be in front of Obama to sign into law shortly. He has already stated that he has no intention to veto it.
Outside of the independent media, opposition to NDAA has remained almost nonexistent, with the mainstream neglecting to discuss the colossal implications the bill would have if it is signed into law. Speaking to radio host Alex Jones on Tuesday, however, Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul finally became one of the first main figures to attack the act.
“This is a giant step – this should be the biggest news going right now – literally legalizing martial law,” said Paul. The congressman from Texas also appeared flabbergasted that the bill managed to escape discussion in any of the recent GOP debates, despite its provisions being detrimental to the US Constitution and the freedom of every man, woman and child in America.
“This is big,” continued Paul, adding “This step where they can literally arrest American citizens and put them away without trial….is arrogant and bold and dangerous.”
The bill could be on the desk of Barack Obama as early as Wednesday of this week.
