It has become incredibly frustrating to deal with people who erroneously believe that Obama and his administration will live up to a single claim, promise, or statement. Especially since neither Obama nor his pals have given us a single reason to trust them while giving us tons of reasons not to, not the least of which being the fact that they claim they can kill you or me whenever they please, based on policies which they repeatedly have refused to justify in a court of law.
Back when the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012 was being pushed through the House and Senate and making its way towards Obama’s desk I attempted to make it clear that the Obama administration’s supposed intention to veto the bill was nothing more than theater.
Of course, he ended up signing the bill with a meaningless signing statement claiming that he “signed this bill despite having serious reservations with certain provisions that regulate the detention, interrogation, and prosecution of suspected terrorists.”
The White House’s late-week release of an executive order has sent the online community into an uproar, worried that President Obama had secretly provided himself means to institute martial law in America.
In the common practice of dumping government documents on a Friday afternoon, just as the news cycle is wrapping up for the week – a move critics say allows the administration to avoid widespread coverage of embarrassing actions – the White House released an executive order on “National Defense Resources Preparedness.”
Filled with language about “government-owned equipment” and a “defense executive reserve,” among other vague statements, rumors began to spread that the executive order expanded the president’s power to do everything from seizing whole industries to drafting private armies.
In addition to asking about the Presidential race in Alabama and Mississippi we also touched on some other issues in those states:
-There’s considerable skepticism about Barack Obama’s religion with Republican voters in them. In Mississippi only 12% of voters think Obama’s a Christian to 52% who think he’s a Muslim and 36% who are not sure. In Alabama just 14% think Obama’s a Christian to 45% who think he’s a Muslim and 41% who aren’t sure.
EXCLUSIVE: 140 Companies Drop Advertising From Rush Limbaugh
ThinkProgress has obtained an internal memo from Premiere Radio Networks listing 96 national companies that have “specifically asked” their advertisments not be played during the Rush Limbaugh Show. Premiere is the distributor of Limbaugh’s program. The advertisers have also requested to be excluded from other right-wing hosts including Michael Savage, Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity. According to the memo obtained by Occupy Wall Street, the listed companies’ advertisements should be excluded from these programs because they have been “deemed to be offensive.”
In front of the White House a man is sitting on a park bench in the throes of depression. He is surrounded by 43 presidents. In the forefront, purposefully ignoring the depressed man is President Obama, whose right foot is stepping on the Constitution. James Madison is next to Obama, pleading with him to stop. This tableau is called “The Forgotten Man”, a painting by Jon McNaughton, an artist who is known for his politically-charged work.
The painting, which uses objects such as discarded dollar bills as symbols and scraps of paper with individual constitutional amendments scrawled onto them, has been making the rounds across the Internet.
Occupy Wall Street explains why Obama deserves this painting:
He signed NDAA which allows detaining American citizens indefinitely
Still has not closed Guantanamo Bay
Allowing the DEA to trump state laws
Not going after ANYONE on Wall Street
Joe Rogan speaking out about Obama signing the NDAA into law
Obama signed this into law. Obama specifically requested that NDAA include US Citizens. This has not gotten enough attention.
Our President blames the Senate for tagging NDAA in with the military appropriations bill, when it was his office that requested the provision! What a bunch of baloney. In the Republic Plato warns that Democracy can devolve into a tyranny, and it seems to me that Obama is nothing more than a mouthpiece for the nefarious forces within our Govt.
Whoever votes for Obama in the upcoming elections hates America.
This afternoon, Obama signed the controversial Defense authorization bill, despite his reservations about provisions related to the treatment of terrorism suspects. The National Journal reports:
President Obama signed on Saturday the defense authorization bill, formally ending weeks of heated debate in Congress and intense lobbying by the administration to strip controversial provisions requiring the transfer of some terror suspects to military custody.
“I have signed this bill despite having serious reservations with certain provisions that regulate the detention, interrogation, and prosecution of suspected terrorists,” Obama said in a statement accompanying his signature.
Eight people affiliated with Occupy Des Moines were arrested this afternoon at the Iowa Democratic Party headquarters in Des Moines.
The eight, whose hands were zip-tied behind their backs, were placed in a police wagon and transported to the Des Moines police station, where they were cited and released.
Each was to be charged with criminal trespassing, which is a misdemeanor. They did not resist arrest and were escorted out of the headquarters at 5661 Fleur Drive without incident.
Twelve people had walked into the headquarters late this morning. They were there to demand that President Obama veto the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and the omnibus spending bill. Police told the protesters that they could either leave the headquarters or be arrested.
By 2:15 p.m., all protesters had left the building.
Norm Sterzenbach, executive director of the Iowa Democratic Party, said the protesters are continuing to deliver the same message they were brought earlier today to the Obama campaign office north of downtown Des Moines.
Demonstrators had been at Obama’s campaign headquarters much of the weekend. However, the office was closed and protesters were not able to talk personally with anyone about their concerns. Demonstrators decided to move the Obama campaign office occupation at approximately 11 to the Democratic party headquarters.
“They don’t want to be hear to listen to us, we decided to go to the state headquarters and make them listen to us,” Occupy Wall Street member Daniel Bragg said.
Thousands of armed U.S. private contractors will be based in the country, and the potential for violence is real
In a speech at Fort Bragg, N.C., Wednesday, President Obama declared that the war in Iraq is over.
“I’ve come to speak to you about the end of the war in Iraq,” he told gathered troops. “Over the last few months, the final work of leaving Iraq has been done. Dozens of bases with American names that housed thousands of American troops have been closed down or turned over to the Iraqis. Thousands of tons of equipment have been packed up and shipped out. Tomorrow, the colors of United States Forces-Iraq — the colors you fought under — will be formally cased in a ceremony in Baghdad.”
All the specifics were true. But what about Obama’s claim that the war has come to a end?
The truth is more complicated. It turns out the Obama administration is leaving behind a huge contingent from the State Department along with thousands of armed private contractors. The possibility for violence between Americans and Iraqis is very real.
Leading figures on the right and the left joined forces Thursday to condemn President Barack Obama for going back on his pledge not to veto a security bill that would allow for the indefinite detention of American terror suspects without trial.
Anyone who the administration believes is “part of or substantially supported al-Qaida, the Taliban or associated forces,” could face lifetime detention at Guantanamo Bay, without appeal or even a lawyer under the provision.
The House passed the bill on Wednesday, 283-136, and the Senate followed suit, 86-13, Thursday afternoon.
Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky led the attack on the new law.
“Detaining citizens without trial is not American,” he said, adding that passage of the law would signify that the terrorists have won.
“We’re talking about American citizens who can be taken from the United States and sent to a camp at Guantanamo Bay and held indefinitely,” Paul added. “It puts every American at risk, and Occupy Wall Street agrees with this.
“What security does this indefinite detention of Americans give us?” Paul asked. “The first and flawed premise, both here and in the badly named Patriot Act, is that our pre-9/11 police powers were insufficient to stop terrorism. This is simply not borne out by the facts.”
White House Lifts Veto Threat of Defense Authorization Bill.
This bill of “detaining Americans indefinitely will no trial, judge or jury” will pass. Obama will not veto it. This will actually happen. Wow.
President Obama has dropped his threat to veto the 2012 defense authorization bill after his advisers concluded that revised provisions about detainees would not harm national security.
The new “language does not challenge or constrain the president’s ability to collect intelligence, incapacitate dangerous terrorists, and protect the American people,” Press Secretary Jay Carney said in a statement.
The House is poised to pass the bill on Wednesday, despite controversial provisions requiring military detention for some terrorism suspects.
Flood the whitehouse comment line 202-456-1111! Be proactive!
We now know, for those that have been holding out in “hope” that Obama will veto the 1031 Indefinite Detainment Bill (NDAA) against holding U.S. Citizens indefinitely without rights to a trial or lawyer or charges… it was Obama who required the bill have the language ‘U.S. Citizens being held without rights’ included in the bill! This bill will pass if it goes in front of Obama for his signature.

In your correspondence with your Representative, please mention the following facts. Too many journalists are still confused on these points — please let them know too:
The bill passed by Congress absolutely DOES NOT exempt citizens
Section 1031 reads, “A covered person under this section” includes “any person who has committed a belligerent act”.
The Feinstein Amendment 1031(e) is dangerously misleading
Don’t be fooled! In the text of 1031(e), “Nothing in this section shall be construed…”, the only word that matters is “construed” — the Supreme Court are the only ones with the power to construe the law. The Feinstein Amendment 1031(e) permits citizens to be imprisoned without evidence or a trial forever, if the Supreme Court does not EXPLICITLY repeal 1031.
Confusingly, Obama previously threatened a veto for 1032, but NOT 1031
1032 does NOT concern imprisoning citizens without a trial. He has never suggested using a veto to stop Section 1031 citizen imprisonment. In fact, Section 1031 citizen imprisonment without trial was requested by the Obama administration. See the video proof here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLiKvSz_wX8
MICHAEL MOORE, ON CNN: Well, “The Washington post” three weeks ago had this investigation and they said that President Obama has now raised more money from Wall Street and the banks for this election cycle than all — than all eight Republicans combined. I don’t want to say that, because if that’s the truth, that Wall Street already has their man and his name is Barack Obama, then we’ve got a much bigger problem.
But I think President Obama, if he were here in the room, the question I would ask him is why are they your number one contributors? Why are you taking this money?
MORGAN: It’s fascinating to find out why they’re doing it. I’ll ask him.
MOORE: What are they expecting in return in the second term from you? Right now, here’s what we do know. Goldman Sachs was your number one contributor the 2008 election. And we have not seen anyone from Goldman Sachs go to jail. We have not seen the regulations, Glass/Steagall, put back on to Wall Street now three years after the crash.
Why hasn’t that happened? President Obama, we the people need you to take them by the throat and say, damn it, this is the United States of America; you don’t steal from the working people of this country. And this is the way it’s going to be.
The United States of America may potentially be on the precipice of a Greek-style debt crisis within a few years, and our economy is increasingly looking like it may be at risk of entering another recession – and the Financial Crisis 2.0 could make the Great Recession look tame. Simply put, the Fed and Treasury have bloated their balance sheets to such grotesque levels to fight the deflationary forces sparked in the economy as a result of the housing collapse that there will be no more temporary “smoke-and-mirrors” fiscal and monetary options to circumvent another downturn.
Certainly, the Fed will likely give QE3…QE4…QE5, a shot if the economy becomes completely unglued, but similar to what has occurred in Japan for the last 20 years, it will not work. We have already seen what Mr. Bernanke’s money printing in the form of QE2 has wrought – it has robbed the middle class blind, while benefitting the entrenched corporate, banking, and political elite, along with wealthy Americans. The vast majority of Americans do not have sufficient financial assets such as bond, stock, commodity and hedge fund portfolios to offset the rise in food and energy prices that Bernanke has unleashed on the country due to his policy of Dollar devaluation through money printing.
The entire burden of a falling Dollar as a result of QE2 and the United States’ exploding debt has been placed on the middle and working classes, while the elite have benefited from rising prices for financial assets. It is a scam. Furthermore, it hasn’t provided one iota of benefit for the vast majority of American citizens. The unemployment rate continues to hover at 9.1% and very likely could hit double digits by next year.
…….. Obama’s lies have been egregious and on par with those of President Bush. He lied about closing Guantanamo Bay. He lied about bringing the troops home. He resigned the Patriot Act after saying that he would would not. Furthermore, Obama is targeting American citizens for assassination without due process. This is in addition to the socialist, big government, programs he has passed such as ObamaCare, which was opposed by the majority of the American populace. Domestically, our spending has gotten completely out of control. President Bush got the ball rolling, and President Obama has sped up the process of destroying the country through debt.
…….. Into this void has stepped a man whose reputation for integrity, honesty, and principles is unimpeachable. He has ideas which address nearly every single problem that this country faces. He wants to follow the Constitution, restore civil liberties, end the foreign occupations, downsize government, restore sound money and reform the Entitlement State. If we elected Dr. Ron Paul would all of these things happen overnight? Of course not. Many of his solutions would take years to successfully implement, but the ideas are powerful and very important. Ron Paul represents the idea of a radical reformation of our country – based on the principles enunciated by the founding fathers.
